509: A Nice Round Number for Goldman Sachs

November 8, 2017

Goldman Sachs has named 509 new managing directors, the 2nd-highest employee rank behind partner. The MD Class of 2017 - the largest class in the firm's history - includes 101 in banking, 130 in securities, 52 in technology, and 8 in consumer and commercial banking (Marcus). It's also one of the firm's youngest classes - 44% are millenials. The new roles take effect on 1/1/18.

Goldman, which announces the promotions every 2 years, last promoted 425 to that position in 2015. The firm will now have 2,148 managing directors. According to Glassdoor, the base salary for managing directors is $389,098, with total compensation at $746,891.

Congratulations to all new MD's.
