AIG Asset Manager Going to the Dogs
February 13, 2012
[ by Melanie Gretchen ]
AIG asset manager David Moskowitz, who lives and works in Manhattan, will take his business across town on Tuesday, rather than heading downtown to American International Group offices in the Wall Street area, to participate in the 136th showing of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden - home of Jeremy Lin. Mr. Moskowitz and his Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Oscar the Grouch, will share the spotlight along with 2,000 other dogs and their trainers from across the country. At 2 years and 118 pounds, the Murray Hill canine may be an underdog to win the competition - but not the heart of his surrounding neighborhood.
Mr. Moskowitz, 29, adopted Oscar after attending Westminster as a spectator in 2010. Rather than staying at Midtown hotels this week, he and his pooch will be homeward bound Monday night, before their 6 a.m. wake-up for Oscar's breed-level competition Tuesday. To Las Vegas bookmakers, Oscar is known as an underdog: though he is the No. 2 rank in 2012 grand-championship points after a successful January, he looks young and faces stiff competition from his dad - a 5-year-old named Yuri who won last year an award of merit for the breed, one which has never won Best in Show at Westminster.
Around town, the Swissy is known for his size and his owner's devotion.
"If you have a kid, you want to see him do as well as he can in football and piano," said Mr. Moskowitz. "Why not do the same with him?"
