Amazon Makes Drone Delivery in England
Amazon made its first successful delivery using a drone - to a gent on the English countryside with a hankering for some TV and a bag of popcorn, the retail giant announced Wednesday.
The futuristic drop-off happened 12/7, as part of testing for Amazon Prime Air service, and took 13 minutes from the time the customer clicked “order” for the 4.7-pound package to arrive at his a 2-story farmhouse.
Video footage shows the completely autonomous, GPS-guided drone, which reaches a max height of about 400 feet, making its way to its Cambridge destination. Once there, it drops a small black box with Amazon Fire TV stick and a bag of popcorn on customer’s lawn.
