Barclays Finance Director, General Counsel to Depart

February 5, 2013

Bank Says Departures Have Nothing to Do With Barclays-Qatar Investigation.

[ by Melanie Gretchen ]

At Barclays, the exodus of high level bank officials continues.  On Monday it was announced that Finance Director Chris Lucas and General Counsel Mark Harding will be leaving.  Mr. Lucas joined the bank 6 years ago, but is leaving shortly after U.K. authorities concluded an investigation into the bank receiving a capital injection from the Qatari Sovereign Wealth Fund in 2008.

The officers will stay on board until successors are appointed and the responsibilities have been completely handed over.  Notwithstanding the fact that the departures coincide with the regulators' report on their investigation, Barclays says that both executives are leaving on their own volition, and have not been pushed out the the Libor manipulation settlement or any subsequent matters.
