Competition for BlackBerry

September 10, 2010

Two firms - JPMorgan Chase and UBS - may soon let employees use a device or smartphone other than Research in Motion’s BlackBerry for corporate e-mail.  The switch from RIM would be a first.  JPMorgan reportedly is testing the Apple device and smartphones based on Google’s Android software. The bank is the 2nd largest in the U.S. by assets and has 220,000 employees worldwide.

UBS, Switzerland’s biggest bank, said it too was considering allowing its staff to use iPhones for company messaging as more employees have opted for the Apple product.  UBS has over 63,000 employees.   [NYT Dealbook, 9/10]
