Current, Former Execs at Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Get Wells Notices

March 15, 2011

Daniel Mudd, the current CEO of Fortress Investment Group, ran Fannie Mae from 2004 to 2008.  Anthony Piszel was Freddie Mac's CFO from 2006 to 2008.  Donald Bisenius is a current EVP at Freddie Mac.  All three received Wells notices from the SEC.  Mr. Mudd, who was the firm's vice chairman and COO before becoming the CEO, is the highest-ranking official at these companies to come under scrutiny.

The notice sent to Mr. Mudd is the latest indication that the SEC is ramping up its sweeping investigation into Fannie Mae and its sister company, Freddie Mac, which the government had to bail out.   [NYT Dealbook, 3/14]
