Deutsche Bank Sued for Gender-Bias by Senior Exec

September 20, 2012

[ by Melanie Gretchen ]

Deutsche Bank discrimination reached higher into the organization this month, as gender-bias reached the upper echelons of the German Bank.  VP Kelley Voelker said she was fired in retaliation for her lawsuit and and subsequent complaints accusing the German bank of trying to hinder her career.

Conclusion of Convenience. In July, Ms. Voelker received the news that no one in her hedge-fund group would lose their jobs in connection with the bank’s global cost-cutting plan to lay off 1,900 employees.  However, on 9/11, Deutsche Bank said the number would increase – just in time for Mr. Voelker's last day at her New York office on 9/12.

Voelker first sued Deutsche Bank last September, alleging:

  • She was never promoted since joining the bank in 1998
  • The bank had tried to demote her after she took maternity leave, which she called being “mommy-tracked.”
