Dewey's Top Bankruptcy Partner Jumps Ship

May 16, 2012
[ by Melanie Gretchen ] Dewey status report: you know it's bad when you can't get your own lawyers to defend your law firm.  Martin J. Bienenstock, one of the country's leading bankruptcy lawyers, has decided to call it a day.  He leaves for Proskauer with 5 other partners in his department – further whittling down Dewey's partner count. Lost Cause. Philip M. Abelson, Irena M. Goldstein, Timothy Q. Karcher, Michael P. Kessler, and Judy G.Z. Liu joined Mr. Bienenstock in abandoning Dewey & LeBoeuf, where the bankruptcy lawyer had worked to salvage the firm through a prearranged bankruptcy filing that would have involved simultaneously merging with another firm. Rhetorical question: Can you blame them? For further details, go to [Dealbook, 5/11/12].
