Discussing Sensitive Info in Restrooms Can Be Risky Business

March 29, 2011

DealBreaker's Bess Levin and NetNet's John Carney wrote this "revealing" story:  A man was arrested for covertly installing cameras inside of Deutsche Bank - supposedly he's "the guy that delivers water bottles to the trading floor."  But rather than installing cameras to catch insider tips from the trading floor, he attempted to install hidden cameras in the men’s restroom - at the time of his arrest.  And, BTW, the man really does work for a bottled water delivery company.

Question:  How many other Wall Street firms might have hidden cameras in their restrooms?

Take-Away:  So, it would appear that this waterman - as well as many other delivery and repair people - have relatively unimpeded access to lots of bathrooms during their work days.  Should financial firms and institutions who are located nearby Deutsche Bank - e.g., the New York Stock Exchange - have their restrooms swept for recording devices?

Don't mean make people paranoid, but electronic and technological advancements can cut both ways.  Think about it.  [CNBC.com NetNet, 3/25]
