East Coast Trial for West Coast Inside Tipper

March 1, 2012
[ by Melanie Gretchen ] John Kinnucan, the Portland, OR-based research consultant who is charged with illegally providing hedge funds with insider information, is getting an all-expense paid trip to New York City.  The head of Broadband Research LLC, will be transported East, courtesy of the U.S. Marshals Service, for a 3/5/12 hearing. In the meantime, alleged tipper, John Kinnucan must remain in jail in his hometown of Portland, although he was granted bail last week.  He has yet to satisfy the conditions of his release - that includes a $5 million bond, the surrender of all travel documents, and restrictions on his use of the telephone, Internet, and other modes of communications.  Judge Batts did not specify with which conditions Kinnucan failed to meet. During the bail hearing last week, his lawyer, Thomas Hester said said Kinnucan's house was in foreclosure proceedings and that he, his wife, and their 2 children were dependent on financial assistance from relatives. The case: USA v. Kinnucan in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York No. 12-00163. For further details, go to [Reuters, 2/28/12].
