Ex-UBS Rogue Trader Fires Lawyer
December 16, 2011
[ by Melanie Gretchen ]
Former UBS trader Kweku Adoboli, arrested on fraud and false accounting charges after it was discovered he lost $2.3 billion on unauthorized trades, executed yet another very big trade. Mr. Adobli "swapped" his lawyer from Kingsley Napley for a lawyer with Bark & Co. Both law firms are London-based. What's most surprising about the change in representation, is that it comes just 4 days before his next court appearance.
Mr. Adoboli, 31, last appeared in court in November, at which time his lawyer chose not to enter a plea and instead requested an additional 4 weeks for his team to examine evidence and for his client to get more legal advice.
Kingsley Napley is a highly regarded London law firm, having represented another 'rogue trader', Nick Leeson of Baring Bank, and currently representing Rebbekah Brooks, the former manager for Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.
