Fidelity to Smaller Advisers: Get Set for Higher Custody Fees

September 28, 2010

Beginning next year, advisers with less than $10 million under management ("AUM") will see a doubling of custody fees by Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services, Investment News reports.  Advisers reportedly were advised of the changes last July.

Fidelity also will no longer custody alternative assets for those advisers with AUM of less than $30 million, includings assets not held at Fidelity.  The increasing focus on larger, more profitable advisory firms is a trend among larger custodians, like Fidelity.  [Investment News, 9/24]
