Former Treasury Official Rejoins Hellman & Friedman
December 9, 2011
Jeffrey Goldstein, a top lieutenant to the Treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, has rejoined the private firm Hellman & Friedman as a partner. At Hellman & Friedman, Mr. Goldstein, 56, will return to focusing on investments in the financial services sector. He previously worked at the firm from 2004 to 2009, where he helped oversee its investments in LPL Holdings, a now-publicly traded broker-dealer based in Boston, and Grosvenor Capital Management, a privately held Chicago-based investment shop.
Mr. Goldstein will also serve in a new client-relations role at the firm, and will be based in New York.
As the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for domestic finance since 2009, Mr. Goldstein played a leading role in shaping the administration’s financial policies in the wake of the global economic crisis, including implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act overhauling Wall Street regulation. He worked on everything from restructuring the housing market to overseeing the Treasury’s bailout investments in the banks and automakers.
Mr. Goldstein left his post in July. [Dealbook 12/9/11]
