Fortune's '40 Under 40': Business's Hottest Rising Stars
Friday's a good day for reading some soft news - like Fortune magazine's “40 Under 40″ ranking of business’s hottest rising stars. Yes, it's got all the techies - the Mark Zuckerbergs, and the Sergei Brins - who form the bulk of the list. Representing finance, there are hedgies who have amassed a fortune clipping those lucrative incentive fees from their billion-dollar funds.
John Arnold, 36, who runs Centaurus Advisors, is a Houston-based energy trader who was #9 - he's had a successful second act after leaving Enron. Further down, is Greg Jensen, 36, of Bridgewater Associates, the No. 2 to Ray Dalio at one of the world’s largest hedge funds. Boaz Weinstein, a Deutsche Bk star derivatives trader (and chess master), rebounded to 17 - after having lost a lot for DB, he formed the $1.5 billion Saba hedge fund.
From private-equity, there's Adam Palmer, 37, at the Carlyle Group - he's #35. Mr. Palmer is basically a Carlyle lifer, having joined the firm in 1996 and focusing on its original stock in trade - aerospace and defense investments. He made partner at age 32 and has the 18th longest tenure at the firm out of 900 people, and could help lead the private-equity giant some day.
Other finance types: Aryeh Bourkoff, 37, a media banker at UBS. Eric Edidin, 38, is the founder of Archer Capital Mgmt, after his stint in Blackstone Group’s restructuring group.
