Galleon Insider Case: Jury Must Start Over

May 4, 2011

The jury in the trial of Galleon Group founder Raj Rajaratnam will have to restart its deliberations anew because one juror was dismissed from the case for medical reasons.  U.S. District Judge Richard Holwell instructed the jurors:  "You must disregard your earlier deliberations and begin your deliberations anew.''  An alternate juror will replace the dismissed juror, and a new foreman must be chosen.   Jurors had deliberated for 6 days prior to today, Wednesday.

Defendent Rajaratnam stands accused of earning at least $64 million in illegal profits by trading on inside tips about such companies as chipmaker AMD and Goldman Sachs .   [Reuters, 5/4/11]
