Geithner Leaving Treasury This Week

January 24, 2013

[ by Melanie Gretchen ]

Timothy Geithner's term as Treasury Secretary ends Friday, 1/25/13, following his earlier announcement that would step down at the end President Obama's first 4-year term.  Mr. Geithner, who was the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York before joining the Treasury, has been one of the more high-profile people to hold the job.

Mr. Geithner will be succeeded by Jack Lew, Mr. Obama's current chief of staff, whom the President nominated for the position.  Other Cabinet members to leave include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.  [NY Post, 1/23/13]
