Geithner Next Role as Distinguished Fellow

February 6, 2013

[ by Melanie Gretchen ]

Timothy Geithner is not done with international economic policy.  The former NY Federal Reserve Bank President, who recently stepped down as Treasury secretary, is rejoining the Council on Foreign Relations as a distinguished fellow.  He was with the Council in 2001, as a senior fellow.

In his new role as a distinguished fellow, Mr. Geithner will be based at the group's headquarters in New York.  He also plans to write a book about the American response to the global financial crisis - detailing decisions he helped shape while running the New York Fed Bank and later the Treasury Department.  He'll also have plenty of opportunity to make reference to his time with the International Monetary Fund and the Clinton administration.

"We are thrilled to welcome Tim back.  Both at Treasury and at the New York Federal Reserve, Tim was a tireless, creative, and responsible custodian of the public trust. His coming to C.F.R. only strengthens our capacity to produce thoughtful analysis of issues at the intersection of economic, political, and strategic developments." -- Richard Haass, the council’s president, in a statement.
