Goldman's Partner Class of 2010
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. held its biannual elections and the results did not disappoint: 110 people were selected to become partners - up from 94 two years ago. Among those named were Donald Casturo from Commodities, and Dina Powell, Head of Corporate Engagement. Bloomberg obtained an internal memo that contained the list. Appointments take effect 1/1/11. Congratulations!
The biannual elections go back to the days when Goldman was Wall Street’s last remaining partnership. In 1999, the company ended 130 years of private ownership went public. Partners get $600,000 in salary, share in a special compensation pool and typically receive most of their year-end bonuses in restricted stock. These are honorary designations that enable people to participate in a bonus pool - because corporations do not have "partners." A promotion for most of them in terms of how much they get paid, said former Goldman partner Roy Smith who's now a finance professor at NYU B-School.
