BLACK MONDAY!!!!

Twenty-five years ago - Monday, October 19, 1987 - the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 23% 

As NYTimes columnist Floyd Norris wrote:  young investment bankers on the trading floor of Salomon Brothers "no doubt wondered if their world was coming to an end." points out, hen the Dow Jones industrial average lost 23 percent of its value on Oct. 19, 1987.

The crash didn't lead to a new Depression, despite dire predictions.  But it did signify "the beginning of the destruction of markets by dumb computers."
