ING Names Firm Veteran to CEO Post

ING Group selected its new CEO from within its own talent pool, naming Ralph Hamers, 47, to the position. Mr. Hammers has deep roots at the firm - having been there 22 years - and, since March 2011, he has been CEO of ING Belgium and Luxemburg. ING Bank is based in the Netherlands
Mr. Hamers is scheduled to move into his new position on 10/1/13, when current CEO, Jan Hommen, who also Chairs the Executive Board, is scheduled to step down. Mr. Hamers will be the 8th CEO of the firm. Upon first coming to the firm - in 1991 - Mr. Hamers started off as a relationship manager for Structured Finance. he has since served in these capacities:
- Global Risk Management in 1997
- General Manager of ING Romania in 1999
- CEO of ING Bank in the Netherlands
- Global Head of the Commercial Banking Network in 2007
- Head of Network Management for Retail Banking Direct and International in 2010
In addition to his new role, Mr. Hamers will become a member of the Management Board Banking (MBB) and Management Board Insurance EurAsia (MBE). He received a Master of Science in Business Econometrics/Operations Research from Tilburg University in the Netherlands and has completed professional programmes at the Netherlands Institute for Banking, the Amsterdam Institute of Finance, Oxford University and INSEAD.
