Jon Corzine Sighted On Long Island, Among the Summer Jet-Setters
July 6, 2012
[ by Howard Haykin ]
Unfortunately, Mr. Corzine looks out-of-sorts while walking through the resort town of East Hampton. Instead, he appears to more closely resemble someone who would play the lead role in a sequel to the movie, "Home Alone." That's because, Jon Corzine, who could easily be referred to as Mr. Ex (i.e., the ex-NJ Governor, ex-NJ Senator, ex-Goldman Sachs managing partner, and ex-MF Global chief executive) is persona non grata, and gets invited to very few social gatherings.
Just last summer, Mr. Corzine was the life of the party and he frequently held court on the East End political circuit. The reversal has been pretty noticeable. Corzine often looks haggard and somewhat unfocused - the sign of a troubled man. The day he was spotted in East Hampton, Mr. Corzine was wearing a non-descript oversized sweatshirt and baggy jeans. Corzine also is far less visible and can "barely enjoy a cup of coffee in the very getaway that used to recharge his batteries."
The sudden collapse of Corzine's business world, the unsolved mystery of the missing $1.2 billion in customer funds, and the undecided fate of Mr. Corzine and his senior management team - whether or not they'll be held responsible for the disaster - continues to haunt Mr. Corzine and take its toll on him - which is just fine with many people.
