JPMorgan & BofA Suffer Back-to-Back Web Outages

September 20, 2012

[ by Howard Haykin ]

For the 2nd day, a global bank experienced Internet problems - first it was Bank of America, then on Wednesday it was JPMorgan Chase.  JPMorgan's consumer banking website was down intermittently on Wednesday, 9/19, just one day after BofA's web site experienced slowness for most of Tuesday, 9/18.

In both cases, most bank customers were able to access their accounts, although many could not connect because they were timed out by the slow processing.

Hackers. A group of hackers claimed credit for problems at the websites of both banks, saying they were motivated by the online video that mocked the founder of Islam.  The problems occurred amid threats on the Internet that a group was planning to launch cyber attacks on a U.S. bank.

To read about BofA's problems, which apparently significantly larger, read C-I's posting in:  [WHO'S News, 9/18, "BofA Site: Down But Not Out"].
