Legal Services Experiences Unexpected Jump in Jobs

Perhaps fiscal cliff concerns led individuals and companies to seek out legal services to close out deals in 2012 that typically would have carried into 2013.

The Christmas season provided an unexpected but much needed boost to the battered legal sector. One thousand new legal sector jobs opened up in December - an anomaly for this profession at this time of year.  The increase helped to increase nationwide employment by 155,000 jobs in December - although the national unemployment rate remained at 7.8%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

It's interesting to note that June 2009 was the last time employment in the legal sector increased in a given month.
