'Mary Beth' Succeeds 'Mary Jo' at Debevoise
[ by Melanie Gretchen ]
One week after Mary Jo White was confirmed as the next Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Debevoise & Plimpton stepped up and appointed Mary Beth Hogan to succeed Ms. White as co-chair of its litigation department. Ms. Hogan will serve alongside John Kiernan, who also served with Mary Jo White.
Introducing Ms. Hogan. A 22-year veteran of Debevoise, Mary Beth Hogan is in position to become one of Wall Street’s top lawyers. The New York-based law firm has made its name representing big banks in federal investigations. Ms. Hogan is no stranger to those hearings, having represented JPMorgan, UBS, and the Carlyle Group, among other financial giants. Recent accomplishments include:
- building a practice focused on the mortgage industry, including investigations into mortgage-backed securities
- serving 2 terms on the Devevoise management committee, after having made partner in 1999.
- co-founding a group that champions the advancement of women at the firm.
Unlike her predecessor, Ms. Hogan has no government experience. Nevertheless, she is a current board member of nonprofit groups, including Nazareth Housing, which focuses on homelessness prevention efforts.
"Mary Beth is a logical choice for this important role. We are very pleased that she will assume this key position." -- Michael W. Blair, Debevoise’s presiding partner, in a statement.
