More Partners Leave Goldman

June 15, 2012
Goldman Sachs announced a number of partner level departures/retirements.  Muneer A. Satter, Hughes Lepic, and Gerald J. Cardinale are all retiring from the firm, according to a memo to employees. These departures come as Goldman itself is shrinking.  The firm has cut its head count over the last year by more than 8%, to 32,400 employees to cope with reduced revenue amid difficult markets and new regulations. There were 440 partners in February, down from 483 at the beginning of 2011.  Senior management expects a few dozen more partners to leave by year’s end, according to the people briefed on the matter.  Those same people say that Goldman will name a partner class of 100 people in November, down from the size of the partner class in previous years. For more information, see [Dealbook, 6/15/12].
