Morgan Stanley Chairman to Retire

February 16, 2012
[ by Melanie Gretchen ] Morgan Stanley announced the retirement of Stephen Roach, the non-executive chairman of the firm's Asia operations, and one of its best-known figures.  In an internal memo to employees, CEO James Gorman said Mr. Roach will return to academia on the faculty of Yale University. Since joining Morgan Stanley almost 30 years ago, Mr. Roach has served as Chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia from 2007 to 2010, and as the firm's Chief Economist, heading up the Firm’s global economics research team since 2010.  Two years ago, he joined the faculty of Yale, through a joint appointment at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs and the School of Management, where one of his recent courses on the country’s economy was titled "The Next China."
