Morgan Stanley: Management Changes

May 4, 2011

Morgan Stanley announced three management moves in the Risk function, Fixed Income, and Corporate Communications.  Keishi Hotsuki was named the new Chief Risk Officer after serving as interim CRO since January.  Mr. Keishi will join the firm’s operating committee and report to CEO James Gorman.

He succeeds Ken deRegt, who now will run Fixed Income  - a department that's struggled to recover since the financial crisis.  Also, Jeanmarie McFadden, the firm’s global head of corporate communications, is joining Morgan’s management committee.  Mr. Gorman credits Ms. McFadden and her team with playing an important role in positioning the firm, communicating its strengths and articulating its strategy to key stakeholders globally.  Communications has become a crucial risk function on Wall Street, in that a misstep in this department can put a firm’s reputation in jeopardy.  At Goldman Sachs in 2006, Lucas van Praag, its global communication chief, was named a partner managing director, a senior title that is typically reserved for the firm’s top producers.

Here's Mr. Gorman’s internal memo to employees:

I am pleased to announce that Keishi Hotsuki, who has been the interim Chief Risk Officer since January, will become the Firm’s new Chief Risk Officer, succeeding Ken deRegt.  Keishi will join the Operating Committee and report to me directly. Keishi is a seasoned risk management professional with 25 years of experience who has contributed greatly to the successful augmentation of the Firm’s risk management function that has taken place over the last few years. He is a talented and dedicated veteran who will be a valuable addition to the Operating Committee.

Additionally, I am pleased to announce that Jeanmarie McFadden, Global Head of Corporate Communications, will join the Firm’s Management Committee. Jeanmarie is a trusted adviser to senior management, and she and her team play an important role in positioning the Firm, communicating our strengths and articulating our strategy to key stakeholders globally.

Please join me in wishing Keishi and Jeanmarie continued success.
