Morgan Stanley appointed 210 new MDs - down 9.5% from a year ago when 232 were named - an acknowledgment to challenging business conditions and tighter regulations. The promotions were disseminated throughout the firm last week.  Two months ago, Goldman announced a similar reduction in new MD appointments.  Morgan Stanley had 61,899 employees working in 1,300 offices in 43 countries at the end of 2011. In 2011, Morgan Stanley’s profits fell 7% from the year before, while its share price plunged 44%. So far in 2012, MS shares have climbed 20% year-to-date.
