Morgan Stanley to Cut 580 NYC Jobs
December 27, 2011
Morgan Stanley filed a "WARN" notice with the New York State Department of Labor on Tuesday, saying it will cut 580 jobs at 4 Manhattan offices. Such filings are required under the state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Bad news certainly travels fast.
Affected Investment Banking Offices: (i) 1221 Avenue of Americas; (ii) 1 New York Plaza; (iii) 1585 Broadway; (iv) 750 Seventh Avenue.
Morgan Stanley filed the notice after announcing plans in mid-December to cut 1,600 jobs next year across all geographic locations and seniority levels. The firm cited economic reasons for the job cuts - owing largely to the sharp decline in investment banking and trading revenue across all of Wall Street. Anticipated Q4 Results. Analysts expect Morgan Stanley to report a loss for the 4th quarter - due to a $1.8 billion charge, related to its settlement with MBIA, the bond insurer. Analysts anticipate that Q4 revenues will amount to $6.5 billion - a 25% decline from the year-ago period.
