Morgan Stanley's New Chief Legal Officer

January 9, 2012
Eric Grossman has been named Morgan Stanley's new Chief Legal Officer, succeeding Frank Barron who is retiring this year.  Most recently as Global Head of Legal, Grossman successfully managed all of the Firm’s advisory law and litigation functions.  Needless to say, this is a tremendous promotion for Mr. Grossman, who also will join the firm’s operating committee. Eric Grossman, who joined Morgan Stanley in 2006, had previously served as the first General Counsel of MSSB (Morgan Stanley Smith Barney) and led the integration of the legal teams.  Prior to joining the Firm, Eric was a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell, representing financial institutions on a range of matters. Morgan Stanley chief James Gorman further announced that Government Relations, which reported to Frank Barron and is led by Michael Stein, would now report to Morgan Stanley’s COO James Rosenthal.  [Dealbook 1/9/12]
