Morgan Stanley's New Vice Chairman Hails from CNBC
[ by Melanie Gretchen and Howard Haykin ]
Morgan Stanley is pulling from the headlines – literally – to hire one of CNBC's own as a vice chairman in wealth management. Gary Kaminsky, who was the cable television network's capital-markets editor, will work with Morgan Stanley’s financial advisers on client development, according to Greg Fleming, president of the brokerage unit.
[C-I Note: For a moment, I thought we had a double coincidence - by mistaking Mr. Fleming for another Mr. Fleming who was an early host of TV's "Jeopardy" - his name, however, is Art Fleming.]
The New York-based firm, owner of the world’s largest brokerage, is looking to increase profitability at its brokerage that employs 16,780 advisers and holds $1.8 trillion of client assets - as of 1/31/13. Mr. Kaminsky, who will continue to contribute to CNBC, brings a wealth of experience to the new role. Prior to his role at CNBC, he helped manage an investment portfolio of more than $12 billion at Neuberger Berman Group LLC, once part of Lehman Brother Holdings.
