Muni Bonds to Take Center Stage at SEC
Next Tuesday, 12/7, in Washington, D.C., the SEC will host its 2nd field hearing to examine the municipal securities markets - including market stability and liquidity, investor impact, self-regulation. This is the 2nd in a series of hearings taking place across the country and examining a wide range of issues that affect investors in the municipal securities market.
The first hearing was held in San Francisco on 9/21. Other hearings will be conducted in FL, TX, AL and IL, enabling participants from the local regions to examine different sets of issues. Following the hearings, the Commission will release a staff report addressing information learned, with recommendations for further action the SEC should pursue - which may include new rules, new "best practices,” and/or new legislation.
12/7 Hearing: When, Where, How. The hearing and the nation's capital are both open to the public. The all-day hearing, at the SEC's headquarters, begins at 9 am and ends at 4:50 pm ET. The hearing also will be webcast live at www.sec.gov. The SEC invites members of the public and other interested parties to submit comments related to field hearing topics by using the comment form on the SEC website or sending an e-mail to munifieldhearings@sec.gov.
