New Cell Phone Warning

As firms increasingly supply their bankers and key employees with the latest in smartphone technology, hackers have stepped up their malware attacks.  According to U.S. computer security software maker McAfee, malware targeting Android devices has jumped 76% since the last quarter, making Android the most attacked mobile operating system.  Google's Android operating system-based malware surpassed Nokia's Symbian as the most popular target for mobile malware developers. C-I Take Away.   Firms will benefit by talking pro-active control measures.  For starters: 

  • Train employees on secure use of the devices.
  • Ascertain when and how employees use their smartphones for business.
  • Ascertain what business-related information or data resides on every smartphone - and tag the information for confidentiality.
  • Determine whether smartphones are used to link into the firm's IT system and database, and to what extent this exposes the firm to transmitted Android malware.
