New Job Cuts at UBS

June 27, 2011

The axe will fall on 7.5% of UBS's IT staff worldwide - primarily in the U.S. and Switzerland - in the bank's latest effort to cut costs.  Some 500 employees will be cut out of a global IT workforce of 8,700.  Two hundred jobs will be cut from the bank's 3,500 Swiss staff, along with 180 U.S. job cuts.  The remaining 120 jobs will impact the UK and Asia Pacific.  Many of the affected staff had already been informed of their release.   A source with knowledge of the matter said the cuts would save the bank "in the double digit millions" of francs per year in staff costs.   [Finextra.com, 6/23/11]
