June 6, 2013

[ by Melanie Gretchen ]

The SEC promoted from within when it named Jennifer Marietta-Westberg as the new Deputy Director for the Division of Risk, Strategy, and Financial Innovation (RSFI).  Ms. Marietta-Westberg had been serving as Assistant Director of the unit before her promotion.  In her new role, she will oversee the unit's policy and rulemaking support function and overall management, alongside RSFI Director and Chief Economist Craig Lewis and fellow Deputy Director Kathleen Weiss Hanley.

Role of RSFI.   This SEC unit provides economic analysis, quantitative research and risk assessment.  Its staff has expertise in a variety of academic disciplines along with deep knowledge in the financial industry and markets.  Ms. Marietta-Westberg joined the Commission in 2006, first as a Visiting Scholar in what was then the Office of Economic Analysis.  She then took on the role of Assistant Director of what is now the Office of Investments and Intermediaries within RSFI.   Prior to joining the SEC, she served as an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University after her graduation from University of Iowa in 2000 - she earned a PhD in Finance.
