NY District Attorney Investigates Dewey Partner

[ by Melanie Gretchen ] The unfortunate and embarrassing missteps continue to come out of the woodwork at the offices of beleaguered Dewey & LeBoeuf.  The latest report is that the Manhattan D.A.'s office is investigating Dewey's former chairman, Steven Davis, who's suspected of financial improprieties. Steven Davis, 58, assumed leadership of the firm in 2007 after the merger.  A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, Mr. David joined LeBoeuf Lamb in 1977 and was head of the firm's highly regarded energy and utility practice before assuming leadership of the firm.  misconduct,  is being investigated for misconduct by, the firm said on Friday. Financial Improprieties. Following accusations of wrongdoing by Steven Davis, who helped drive the 2007 merger that formed the firm, the firm asked 2 of its own lawyers to conduct an internal investigation, according to an internal memo sent to the firm's partners.  A group of Dewey partners also approached the district attorney, with evidence about supposed financial improprieties by Davis, prompting that office to open an investigation, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it publicly.  The nature of the improprieties in unclear.
