Robert Morvillo 'Dean of White Collar Law' Dies

December 27, 2011
Robert Movrillo, a prominent New York trial lawyer who pioneered the practice of white-collar criminal defense and whose client list included Martha Steward, John Zaccaro, Maurice Greenberg, has died.  He was 73. Mr. Morvillo also served as a mentor to a generation of younger lawyers. In addition to his younger partners and associates at his law firm, which he helped start in the early 1970s, numerous lawyers at other firms, at corporations and in government worked with Mr. Morvillo early in their careers. Morvillo Abramowitz alumni include David Meister, the head of enforcement at the CFTC; Betty Santangelo, a partner at Schulte, Roth & Zabel and former federal prosecutor who was among the first associates Mr. Morvillo ever hired; and Rebecca Rescigliano, an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York, who last year was named deputy chief of the narcotics unit.  [Dealbook 12/27/11]
