[ by Melanie Gretchen ] SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro on Tuesday announced the appointment of an Acting Chief Accountant in the SEC's Office of the Chief Accountant.  Paul Beswick will succeed James Kroeker, who left the SEC on Friday.  Among his new responsibilities will be to manage accounting interpretations, international accounting matters, and professional practice issues. Mr. Beswick joined the SEC in 2007, and has served as Deputy Chief Accountant, for which he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office's accounting group.  In addition, he was staff director of a multi-year effort to help the Commission evaluate the implications of incorporating International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) into the financial reporting system for U.S. companies. A graduate of Miami University in Oxford, OH, Mr. Beswick was a Partner with Ernst & Young LLP, where he worked in the firm's Professional Practice and Risk Management Group.  Prior to that, he was a practice fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) from July 2005 to June 2007.
