SEC Deputy Director is Leaving [update]

September 20, 2011
[9/19 WHO story has been updated for Mr. Brigagliano's next position] James Brigagliano, a Deputy Director of the Division of Trading and Markets, will leave the agency at the end of September after 25 years of public service.  Robert Cook is the current Director of the Division. Mr. Brigagliano will join the securities and futures regulatory practice of Sidley Austin's D.C office. Thirteen of the 25 years have been in Trading and Markets, where he's managed oversight of trading practices, market structure reforms, and recent Dodd-Frank Act rulemakings.  He also served as Co-Acting Director of the Division for most of 2009.  Prior to that, Mr. Brigagliano spent 12 years in the SEC's Office of the General Counsel. SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro credit's Jamie with having led "initiatives to strengthen regulation of initial public offerings, research, short selling, issuer repurchases, broker-dealer conduct, market structure, and most recently over-the-counter derivatives under Dodd-Frank."
