SEC Division Gets Name Change

June 6, 2013

Excitement Tempered By Concern Over Cost of New Stationery.

[ by Howard  Haykin ]

And talking about the SEC's Division of Risk, Strategy and Financial Innovation.  Beginning Thursday, 6/6/13, the division will be call the "Division of Economic and Risk Analysis."

The division was created in 2009 when the SEC combined 3 then-existing offices:  (i) Office of Economic Analysis;  (ii) Office of Risk Assessment;  and,  (iii) Office of Interactive Data.

Craig Lewis, SEC Chief Economist and the Division Director expressed his staff's sentiment about the name change, noting:  "We are thrilled that this new name will emphasize the twin goals of the division: to provide robust and transparent economic analyses in support of Commission rulemaking and policy development, and enhance data-driven risk analytics to help focus the agency's resources on matters presenting the greatest perceived risk."

Some unidentified staffers were visibly concerned that the name change would "take a bite out of the Division's already tight budget," given the added expense of new stationery.
