SEC Names Interim Inspector General

David Kotz left the Commission on Friday, 1/27, and an interim replacement was appointed from within.  Deputy Inspector General Noelle Maloney will serve in this role, managing the Office of Inspector General, until a permanent replacement is named.  SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro has directed the OIG staff to work with all 5 Commissioners to create a consensus process that will involve the Commissioners in the hiring. Ms. Maloney joined the SEC in in January 2005 as an OIG Senior Counsel providing subject matter expertise on issues of privacy and information sharing.  In July 2008, she was promoted to the position of deputy inspector general.  In that role she has overseen OIG’s Office of Investigations and the OIG’s Office of Audits, which conduct independent audits and evaluations of SEC programs and operations. Prior to joining the SEC, Ms. Maloney was the Director of Policy and Public Information for the Peace Corps.  She also served as the agency's Freedom of Information and Privacy Act Officer.  She began her federal career at the National Institutes of Health, where she worked in the offices of administration and management, as well as legislative and intergovernmental affairs. Ms. Maloney received a BA degree in English from the College of New Jersey, and her law degree from Rutgers School of Law-Camden.  Upon graduation, she clerked for the Presiding Civil Judge of the NJ Superior Court, the Honorable Donald Smith, Jr., and was an associate at Sterns & Weinrath.
