SEC Names New Deputy Director of Enforcement

[ by Melanie Gretchen ] The SEC introduced its new Deputy Director for the Division of Enforcement - a "candidate" from the Agency's "farm system."  He is the current Director of the New York Regional Office, George Canellos, who will begin his new role on 6/4/12.  Andrew Calamari will serve as become Acting Director of the NYRO. Mr. Canellos, 47, has served as NYRO Director since July 2009.  Since joining the SEC in 2000, he also has served as Sr Associate Regional Director and co-head of Enforcement for the NYRO - a position he had held since 2004. Prior to joining the Commission in 2000, George Canellos served as an Assistant U.S. District Attorney in the Southern District of New York.  In his 9 years there, he served in a number of positions, including Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, Senior Trial Counsel of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force, and Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney. Canellos graduated from Fordham Law, Harvard College, and Columbia School of Law.   [SEC PR 12-79 , 5/1/12]
