SEC Turns Page on Gun-Toting Assistant; Appoints Interim Inspector General

May 31, 2012
[ by Melanie Gretchen ] The SEC has appointed an Interim Inspector General Jon Rymer, to replace Noelle Maloney, who has served as interim Inspector General since January.  Maloney will return to her previous role as Deputy Inspector General.   The appointment was precipitated by the fact that assistant inspector general, David Weber, was placed on administrative leave after he spoke openly about wanting to carry a concealed firearm at work [Who's News, "Gun-Toting SEC Investigator Placed on Leave"]. Currently Inspector General of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Jon Rymer will continue his work at the FDIC’s Office of Inspector General until the Commission hires a permanent Inspector General.  A Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Government Auditing Professional, he currently serves as the Chair of the Audit Committee of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency and as Vice Chair of the Council of Inspectors General on Financial Oversight. In addition, he is a member of the Comptroller General’s Advisory Council on Government Auditing Standards, following his position as an executive at First American National Bank of Tennessee from 1981 to 1992 and at Boatmen’s Bank of Arkansas from 1992 to 1997.  He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, and of the U.S. Army’s Inspector General School.  He received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
