SEC's Administrative Proceedings Caseload: 4/1 - 9/30

November 3, 2010

The SEC issued a 6-month status report on the Commission's administrative proceedings caseload, that reveals an interesting pattern. On matters before the Administrative Law Judges, the numbers are trending upward;  the opposite is happening on matters before the Commission.

Administrative Law Judges.   The number of open cases during the period increased 22% (131 v. 107) as compared with the 6 months ended 3/31/10.  Dispositions also increased, by 24% (84 v. 68).

Commission.  The number of open cases during the period declined 7% (14 v. 15) as compared with the 6 months ended 3/31/10.  Dispositions similarly decreased 14% (6 v. 7).
