UBS Walks Away from Underwater Mortgage

April 21, 2017

The Stamford, CT, trading floor was once the largest in the world - the size of a football field. The 712,000 square foot facility once housed some 5,000, but UBS has since moved its traders to cheaper offices in New York City. With about $100 million remaining on the mortgage, UBS stopped paying the loan, putting the mortgage in default.

As Financialish reported in December - World's Largest Trading Floor Up for Sale, Cheap - attempts to sell the property attracted no buyers. Then again, interest in setting up shop in Stamford, CT, has waned- with vacancy rates at around 30%.
