Wall Street Women: 2012 Rising Stars
Knight Capital, Russell Investment Exectives Honored by Traders Magazine.
[ by Melanie Gretchen ]
A Knight Capital director and the director of fixed income derivatives won the Traders Magazine's Wall Street Women 2012: Rising Stars, given to "high-impact professionals who are likely to lead the industry for years to come." Knight's Director of Corporate Compliance Christy Oeth and Lisa Cavallari, the director of fixed income derivatives at Russell Investments, were recognized as Rising Stars of 2012.
Knight director Christy Oeth ... graduated from Harvard, where her major in social studies included economics, social theory, and theory. Following graduation in the '90s, she worked at Chase Manhattan Bank then at Clearbrook Financial and Church Capital Management as chief compliance officer. A joint venture between Clearbrook and Knight Capital led to her joining her current firm in 2009.
At Knight, she fused the clearing business into the compliance area and helped the group expand from equities and options to fixed-income and correspondent clearing. To date, she has spent 17 years in the industry. Going forward, she plans to focus on industry working groups and educating others on market structure.
"I got into this business through a friend who really took a chance on me - someone with no regulatory experience but some financial experience. The transition from school to landing my first job in the credit training program was the result not so much of my experience, but my drive and diverse skill set."

Russell Investments Director Lisa Cavallari ... has been in the industry for 15 years. Prior to her role as director at Russell Investments, she was at ZGI Group, Ibbotson Associates, and Barclays Global Investors. At Russell, she specializes in highly esoteric fixed-income derivatives such as listed futures, TBA mortgage-backed securities and interest rate swaps, according to James Imhof, managing director of global trading.
When Ms. Cavallari first joined the firm, she was an analyst. In 1999, she left for Barclays where, for 6 years she was a portfolio manager and trader on its structured products trading desk. In 2005, she returned to Russell.
Today, Ms. Cavallari: (i) trades fixed-income derivatives, (ii) manages its derivatives team, (iii) conducts research, (iv) speaks with clients, (v) does her own research, and (vi) manages some of the firm's $13 billion in its internal funds.
"At the end of the day, everything that is traded in derivatives goes through her - from trading, to settlement to clearing. I have a lot of confidence in her." -- Mr. Imhof.
