Warren Buffett v. Prince William & Catherine
This big bash weekend pits 2 royal events for the world's attention:
(i) The U.K.'s Royal Family's Wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge to Catherine Middeton; and
(ii) The U.S.'s Royal Grilling of Warren Buffett, "Oracle of Omaha," at Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholders meeting (re: the Sokol/Lubrizol affair).
Shira Ovide of the WSJ's Deal Journal takes a look today as to how the 2 events stack up - i.e., which world event is more important - using an admittedly highly unscientific ranking of categories of interest, starting with "Celebrity Wattage."
Celebrity wattage. (i) The nuptials of William and Kate are being overseen by British Prime Minister David Cameron, Elton John, Queen Sofia of Spain, movie director Guy Ritchie (ex-Mr. Madonna) and soccer superstar David Beckham with his pop star wife Victoria. (ii) Warren Buffett in the past has surprised his faithful flock with appearances live or on film from Jimmy Buffett (the “other” Buffett), baseball star Alex Rodriguez and the cast of “Desperate Housewives.” Advantage: Toss Up.
Wealth. (i) Prince William inherited about £6.5 million (about $10.8 million now) from the estate of his late mother, Princess Diana. He also pulls down income of roughly £37,000 a year as an officer in the RAF. (ii) Warren "The Oracle of Omaha" Buffett has a net worth of $50 billion which, according to Forbes, making him the 3rd richest person on the planet. Advantage: Buffett - no contest.
