Citigroup Fined $1Mn for Overcharging Customers

January 13, 2017

Citigroup Global Markets agreed to pay a $1 million penalty to settle charges by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman that the Citi subsidiary overcharged around 47,000 customers more than $22.5 million in account management fees. The settlement ends a 4-year probe by New York authorities.

CGMI has gone a long way to making amends.  It began repaying in 2014 more than $20 million in overcharged fees, it has revised its policies, and it has admitted the findings of investigators.
