Preet Bharara to Meet With Trump
Preet Bharara, a top federal prosecutor, arrived at NYC's Trump Tower to meet with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Bharara, who was appointed to his position by Barack Obama in 2009, smiled at reporters upon his arrival but gave no reason for the meeting.
One possibility is that Trump, who has promised to "drain the swamp" in Washington, might keep on Bharara, who has won praise among even Republicans in New York for pursuing corruption investigations involving state and city politics, as well as financial crime. Those political investigations led last year to the convictions of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, in separate corruption trials. And of course, Bharara has brought dozens of successful cases against insider traders.
